PayPal has secured an exclusive agreement with OpenAI to integrate its payment system into ChatGPT, marking a significant milestone in AI-driven commerce. The collaboration will enable ChatGPT users to leverage PayPal's Instant Checkout feature, complete with funding options and buyer protections, directly within the chatbot interface.

The integration is powered by the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), a framework designed to expand commerce capabilities in ChatGPT. Starting in 2026, ACP will allow merchants to list and sell products directly through ChatGPT, with PayPal handling backend processes like payment validation and merchant routing.

PayPal CEO Alex Chriss emphasized the seamless transition from chat to checkout, underscoring the potential for AI to revolutionize digital transactions. The MOVE signals growing convergence between fintech and artificial intelligence, with PayPal positioning itself at the forefront of this evolution.
